creation and architecture
The story of the Burj Khalifa is one that sprang from the bold vision of the rulers of Dubai to establish the city as a global hub. Construction began in 2004 and was completed six years later, with the opening in 2010. The skyscraper was designed by the American architect Adrian Smith, who worked for the renowned architecture firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.
The shape of the Burj Khalifa is inspired by the Hymenocallis, a local desert flower. The building consists of three elements that wind around a central core, thereby providing stability. Each element is rotated 120 degrees and tapers towards the top, giving the tower its unique silhouette.
The Y-shaped floor plan maximizes the views of the Arabian Gulf. Viewed from below or from the air, the Burj Khalifa is reminiscent of the onion domes common in Islamic architecture.
Technical masterpiece
The construction of the Burj Khalifa was an engineering feat. Over 12.000 workers were working on the site at one time at peak times, and a total of more than 22 million man-hours were expended. The use of high-performance concrete and special construction methods enabled the enormous building to be erected in Dubai's extreme weather conditions.
The building is equipped with state-of-the-art systems, including an intelligent air circulation system that controls the internal temperature and a sophisticated water supply system that pumps 946.000 liters of water through the tower every day.
Use and Attractions
The Burj Khalifa is not only an architectural icon, but also a multi-purpose building. It houses luxury apartments, offices, the renowned Hotel Armani and a variety of restaurants and shops.
However, the main attraction for visitors is the "At The Top" observation deck. Located on the 124th and 125th floors (at 456 meters), it offers breathtaking 360-degree views of the city, the sea and the desert. In addition, on the 148th floor (at 555 meters) there is "At The Top SKY", the highest observation deck in the world.
We liked that best
A visit to the Burj Khalifa is an experience not easily forgotten. Every aspect of this iconic building is impressive, from its dizzying height to the breathtaking views it offers. It is almost impossible to put into words the breathtaking view that the Burj Khalifa offers. The opportunity to stand on top of the tallest building in the world and have a 360 degree view of Dubai, the surrounding desert and the Arabian Sea is simply incomparable. The view changes depending on the time of day and season, adding an extra dimension to the experience. Watching the sunset from the "At The Top" Observation Deck is a particularly memorable moment.

The optimal time to visit the Burj Khalifa depends heavily on personal preferences and interests. The view from Burj Khalifa changes throughout the day, each offering unique perspectives. Early mornings often offer clear views of the city and surrounding desert with fewer visitors.
Late afternoon and early evening, especially around sunset, are popular with many visitors. Sunsets in Dubai are spectacular and provide a stunning backdrop to the views from the tower. However, this is the time when most visitors come and there may be longer waiting times.

our recommendation
The best time to start the visit is 60 to 90 minutes before sunset, so you can still enjoy the area during daylight, the sunset and if you have enough time after the sunset when Dubai shines with thousands of lights.
If you don't have much time, it's best to come early in the morning, this saves you waiting for the elevators and the viewing platforms are not that crowded.
