December 10, 2025 – After nearly seven weeks in dry dock in Marseille, the modernization of the AIDAluna is complete. The ship is the second project of the "AIDA Evolution" future initiative, with which AIDA Cruises is comprehensively renewing its Selection fleet by 2028. AIDAbella will follow in early 2026, and AIDAmar by Christmas 2026. Significant redesigns have been carried out.
Modernized cabins and new catering facilities
AIDAluna presents itself with completely redesigned cabins, modernized suites, and, for the first time, spacious aft suites with private sun decks. The culinary offerings have also been expanded: New concepts such as French Kiss, East Fusion, Tapas & Bar, and several new bars complement the existing portfolio.
Theatrium and other public areas
The atrium has been equipped with modern lighting and sound technology, and families benefit from a new fun park, a revamped kids' club, and an additional play area for toddlers. Two new wellness suites, a modern nail spa, and a redesigned hair spa complete the upgrades.

Recycling project sets standards for the cruise industry
For the first time, fully recycled carpet underlays were installed on an AIDA ship, made from carpets previously removed from the AIDAluna and AIDAdiva. In total, over 45.000 square meters of carpet, 10.000 square meters of underlays, and more than 1.000 mattresses were reused.
Furniture such as balcony chairs and sun loungers were also included in the recycling project. Carpets in the crew area will now be made from recyclable ECONYL® yarn. Even salvaged ship steel is finding a new purpose: The label Paul Hewitt uses it to create maritime jewelry.
Technical innovations and awards
Technical improvements include the testing of new solar films, a more energy-efficient reverse osmosis system, a biocide-free underwater coating, and modernized air conditioning and cooling water systems. The IT infrastructure was comprehensively renewed with 12,5 kilometers of fiber optic cable.
The premiere voyage starts on December 10, 2025
AIDAluna embarks on its first voyage after its shipyard stay today, December 10, 2025. The five-day itinerary takes it from Palma to Marseille, Palamós, and Barcelona. Celebrity guests such as Franziska Knuppe, Max Mutzke, and Mirja Boes will be on hand for the festive reopening. The ship will remain in the western Mediterranean over Christmas and New Year's before heading to the Canary Islands on January 5, 2026.
