August 29, 2022 – The US cruise company Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) had the Norwegian Prima christened yesterday in Reykjavík, Iceland. She is the first of six cruise ships in the newly developed Prima class. At 294 meters long, the ship is significantly smaller than the previously built Breakaway-class ships. Godmother of the new flagship was the American singer and songwriter Katy Perry.

More than 2.500 guests stayed in Iceland's capital Reykjavík the ship baptism. It was the first time a cruise ship of this size had been christened in Reykjavík. In the words of Frank Del Rio, President and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line, the new building is characterized by a breathtaking design and unique attributes. Norwegian Prima is measured at 143.535 GT. The elegant cruise ship offers space for a maximum of 3.100 guests with double occupancy.

The leisure activities are diverse: With the “Rush” and the “Drop”, the ship has a pair of the fastest slides at sea. With the "Prima Speedway", the Norwegian Prima has a three-deck race track. The 4.088 square meter promenade runs around the entire ship. Another novelty is a sculpture garden located on the outer deck.

Guests at the christening ceremony witnessed the traditional champagne bottle being smashed against the hull of the ship. Following this, Katy Perry performed several of her hits in Norwegian Prima's three-story theater. Previously, the Icelandic pop band Daði og Gagnamagnið offered some songs from their repertoire. – Norwegian Prima will conduct her first voyages after the christening in Northern Europe. She visits the Netherlands, Denmark and England. Cruises officially begin September 3, 2022. At the end of the Europe season, the ship will be heading to the United States. From there it starts to cruises in the Caribbean.
