November 13, 2025 – The MS Deutschland will sail for the last time for the Bonn-based cruise operator Phoenix Reisen in 2026. The charter agreement for the traditional ship expires on schedule.
The summer charter was originally scheduled to end in 2025. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the agreement was extended for another season. Now it's official: the floating grand hotel in the style of the 1920s will finally close its doors in the summer of 2026.
Between May and October 2026, the MS Deutschland will embark on its final voyage for Phoenix Reisen. A diverse program featuring particularly popular routes has been compiled for this occasion. Lovers of the classic ocean liner will thus have the opportunity to experience the special atmosphere on board one last time – from elaborately staged shows in the opulent Imperial Hall to a sophisticated drink in the "Zum Alten Fritz" bar.

MS Deutschland in Bremerhaven
Cabins are still available for the final Phoenix cruises on the MS Deutschland. Those who remember the ship from its time as the "Dream Ship" in the eponymous ZDF series, or who simply appreciate the classic cruise atmosphere, have one last chance to travel on the Deutschland in the Phoenix program in 2026.
The MS Deutschland was built in 1998 by Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft. The ship, approximately 175 meters long and 23 meters wide, accommodates up to 550 guests on seven decks. A crew of around 280 attends to the passengers' needs. Since 2015, the Deutschland has also operated as the "World Odyssey" during the winter months – from September to April. During this time, the ship serves as a floating university for the US organization Semester at Sea, carrying teachers and students around the world.
What will happen to the ship after the charter agreement expires is currently unclear.
