MEYER WERFT – Construction of the Disney Destiny has begun

March 21, 2024 – The construction of the Disney Destiny began yesterday at the MEYER WERFT in Papenburg, Lower Saxony, with the traditional coining ceremony and the laying of the keel.

The Disney Destiny is a sister ship to the Disney Wish, which will be delivered in 2022, and the Disney Treasure, which is currently under construction. The place where the keel was laid was the 504 meter long covered building dock of MEYER WERFT. The main people at the ceremony were Philip Gennotte, Portfolio Project Management Executive, and Thomas Weigend, Chief Sales Officer of the MEYER Group and one of the company's managing directors.

After Mr. Gennotte had placed the lucky coin under the keel of the new building, the block was placed on the pallets and the coin. For fans of numbers: The keel-laying block is 38,9 meters wide, 14 meters long and 6,3 meters high.

Once completed, the third ship in the Wish class will be measured at 144.000 gross tons and have around 1.250 cabins. The delivery of the Disney Destiny will take place - if everything goes as planned - in 2025. The new building, like the Disney Wish and the Disney Treasure, which are expected to be delivered this year, has a low-emission LNG drive.
