April 7, 2025 – The MEYER WERFT Group is taking the opportunity at Seatrade Cruise Global in Miami to present the climate-neutral cruise ship concept SERENITY specifically for the target group of people over 80..
Serenity is a term that translates to "serenity" in English. The starting point for this ship concept is the demographic shift in Europe and the USA. For a better understanding, it's important to note that various trends are occurring in the cruise market at the same time:
There are many younger guests who prefer small, luxurious expedition ships. On the other hand, the target audience for medium and larger ships is growing. A glimpse into the future of cruising: By 2100, the over-80s group in the USA will comprise as many people as the over-65s do today. From this constellation, MEYER WERFT has derived a completely new target group of travelers, which it calls "80+." The shipyard has developed a new concept to meet their needs and expectations.
Serenity would provide services for people living in independent living facilities, with some additional features of assisted living facilities. Good examples would be additional requirements for onboard walkways, such as corridor widths, social interactions, and passenger flow and general onboard orientation.
In addition to these forward-looking ideas, the MEYER WERFT Group will also be presenting its usual current product portfolio for the cruise industry at Seatrade Cruise Global 2025. This means that the group is the only shipyard to offer the complete range of river and ocean cruise ships.
