July 9, 2024 – MEYER WERFT, currently in difficult waters, is pleased to have received an order to build a fourth cruise ship of the Wish class. The client is Japanese Oriental Land Company (OLC). Delivery to the Oriental Land Company is scheduled for 2028.
The Disney Wish, christened on June 29, 2022, was the first of two cruise ships originally ordered from MEYER WERFT. The Disney Wish has a gross tonnage of 144.256. The ship is 341 meters long and 40 meters wide. The permitted number of passengers is stated as 5.555. In total, the shipyard is building three ships for the Disney Cruise Line. The two sister ships Disney Treasure and Disney Destiny are already under construction in Papenburg. Delivery will take place in 2024 and 2025.
Disney Wish at Port Canaveral
The Japanese Oriental Land Company (OLC) has ordered a fourth Wish-class ship for the Japanese market. The client operates the Disney theme parks in Japan as a licensee. At the beginning of 2029, the company intends to follow Disney's example and enter the Asian cruise market with the new ship.
Oriental Land Co., Ltd. is one of the established companies in the leisure and entertainment industry. Founded in 1960, it owns and operates the Disney theme parks in Japan. The company opened Tokyo Disneyland in 1983 and Tokyo DisneySea, the first Disney theme park with a marine theme, in 2001, and operates the Tokyo Disney Resort, which includes hotels, a monorail, and a retail, restaurant, and entertainment complex. Most recently, in June 2024, Tokyo DisneySea's eighth theme port, Fantasy Springs, opened, further developing the Tokyo Disney Resort.
