Oceania Cruises orders fifth luxury cruise ship of the Sonata class

Oceania Cruises orders fifth luxury cruise ship of the Sonata class

We recently reported on the Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) group of companies, which ordered a total of three ships from the Fincantieri shipyard group for itself and two subsidiaries.

Today we turn our attention to Oceania Cruises, part of the NLCH group. As part of its overall procurement strategy, the company has ordered a fifth ship of the new Sonata class from Fincantieri. Delivery is scheduled for 2037. With this additional newbuild, Oceania Cruises is responding to the high demand for its next generation of ships.

According to the cruise line, the expansion of the newbuild series was triggered by an exceptionally strong start to bookings for the Oceania Sonata, which went on sale in January. The order also confirms the company's long-term fleet strategy, which focuses increasingly on more spacious accommodations, new suite categories, and a quieter onboard experience.

The Sonata class aims to set new standards in the upscale luxury segment with approximately one-third more space per guest, completely redesigned cabins, and an expanded culinary selection. New restaurant concepts include La Table par Maîtres Cuisiniers de France and Nikkei Kitchen.

The Oceania Sonata is scheduled to enter service in August 2027. Also in 2027, its first sister ship, the Oceania Arietta, is slated to go on sale. It will adopt the design, spatial concepts, and amenities of the new class.

Oceania Cruises has now ordered a total of five Sonata-class ships. Deliveries are scheduled for 2027, 2029, 2032, 2035, and 2037. Oceania Cruises is a wholly owned subsidiary of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings.
