June 20, 2023 - In two days it will start at the Fincantieri shipyard near Monfalcone/Italy the construction of the first of two identical cruise ships for the Mein Schiff fleet. The Hamburg-based premium shipping company is already celebrating the eighth ship in the fleet as the first of a new ship class. TUI Cruises promises full-bodied: Experience well-being in a new way!
The promise includes the following statements: The new buildings will reveal an even more varied culinary journey through worlds of high-quality enjoyment to the “crusaders”. Architecturally spectacular feel-good oases are available for relaxation. The cabins and suites follow the needs of the guests even more. The spa and wellness areas are being redefined, not to mention high-class entertainment and new worlds of experience. All this is not surprising. Mein Schiff 8 is significantly larger than the largest TUI Cruises cruise ships to date. While Mein Schiff 1 and Mein Schiff 2 are measured at approximately 111.500 GT, Mein Schiff 8 will have around 160.000 GT.

Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI Cruises, promises a lot of freedom for the individual needs of travelers, more innovative culinary concepts and a completely redesigned entertainment world. But that's not all. The company emphasizes the importance of environmental and climate protection: That is why Mein Schiff 8 is fueled with liquid gas (LNG). In the longer term, the ship is suitable for being operated with low-emission and climate-friendly bio and E-LNG. The latter would be an essential step towards climate-neutral cruises. The shipping company will offer this until 2030.
TUI Cruises emphasizes that all new ships built to date are characterized by their outstanding energy efficiency. The six cruise ships consume around 30 percent less fuel than ships of a comparable size. In addition, they are equipped with a combined exhaust aftertreatment system consisting of an exhaust gas washer (“scrubber”) and catalytic converters. This technology reduces sulfur emissions by up to 99 percent, nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 75 percent and particle emissions by up to 60 percent. Although little reliable data is known so far, it can be assumed that the new Mein Schiff 8 is in a different class than the last two newbuilds, Mein Schiff 1 and Mein Schiff 2. With Mein Schiff 7, a third ship of this class is currently in preparation.
