December 21, 2021 | The MEYER WERFT in Papenburg in Lower Saxony today handed over the AIDAcosma, the sister ship of AIDAnova, to AIDA Cruises in Rostock. The cruise ship measured at around 183.900 GT has a low-emission propulsion system with liquefied natural gas (LNG). According to the shipyard, the AIDAnova, launched in 2018, was the world's first cruise ship with this innovative propulsion system.
The innovative ship is 337 meters long and has twenty decks. AIDA Cruises estimates the number of passengers at 5.228; this corresponds to around 2.600 cabins. At the stern, the new flagship from AIDA Cruises has a fun park with a children's pool and water slides. Sunbathers can be found on three tiered sundecks. Guests satisfy their hunger in 17 restaurants. The deck plan shows no fewer than 23 bars and lounges. The public areas include the theatrium familiar from AIDA ships, various shops, a discotheque, a fitness area and the spacious Body & Soul Organic Spa. Facilities for minis, kids and teens are also not missing on board the AIDAcosma.

The AIDAcosma will start on February 26th under the command of Captain Vincent Cofalka for the first of six so-called metropolitan voyages. The christening trip starts on April 9, 2022 from Hamburg to the Mediterranean. The new AIDAcosma trips are now available on the AIDA website can be booked. The godmother is the German track cyclist Kristina Vogel. She christened the ship on April 9, 2022.
AIDAcosma is the ninth ship that MEYER WERFT has built for AIDA Cruises. Regarding the order situation, the shipyard explains that the order book still shows a total of eight cruise ships for international customers by 2025. There is also an apartment ship for Ocean Residences, the construction of which is still subject to financing. From today's perspective, two large ships, the Disney Wish and the ARVIA, will be delivered to P&O Cruises in 2022. A large and a small new building followed in the following years. That is significantly less than was planned before the outbreak of the pandemic.
