Prior to this, routine classing and maintenance work was carried out on the 300-metre-long ship in Rotterdam, and the stay in the dockyard was used to install a battery storage system. In addition, AIDAprima was given a makeover in the public areas.
In connection with the scheduled class and maintenance work, the cruise ship, which was built in Japan and went into operation in 2016, experienced improvements with regard to emission-neutral ship operation during the stay in the shipyard. The use of innovative battery technology on board reduces the consumption of fossil fuels and significantly improves the efficiency of ship operations. AIDAprima becomes more environmentally friendly. The Rostock-based company has been working intensively on the use of lithium-ion battery storage systems on board its fleet since 2019. The recently installed technology is the largest battery storage system in passenger shipping to date. The storage capacity is estimated at ten megawatt hours.

In addition to the battery technology, AIDAprima went through an optical beauty treatment. The Body & Soul Organic Spa shines in new splendor. All Life Fitness cardio machines have been replaced with the latest generation of machines. New is a Hypoxi Studio for figure shaping. In addition to the extensive range of fitness options, there are now Cyberobics workouts with international star trainers. The shopping plaza of the AIDAprima has a special area for leather goods, handbags and sunglasses.
During the entire summer season of 2022, AIDAprima will undertake voyages to the north and to the metropolises of Western Europe. On the metropolitan route, on the 7-day trip London, Brussels, Amsterdam and visited Paris. The tours to Norway lead among other things in the Geiranger fjord, to Ålesund, Haugesund and Stavanger. Both routes can be combined into a 14-day cruise. Important to know: The AIDA summer promise is being extended and offers all guests additional flexibility and security.
