August 2, 2018 - Carnival is spending around 200 million US dollars on the complete renovation of its aging Carnival Triumph. The renovation will start on March 1, 2019 and will bring the cruise ship up to date with the latest Carnival ships. Rebuilding is taking place in Cadiz, Spain. After the renovation, the ship was given the name Carnival Sunrise.
The coming year will mark the 20th anniversary of the Carnival Triumph's commissioning. The ship was developed and built at a time when balconies were apparently considered a luxury. The balcony rate is unsatisfactory compared to current cruise ships. Only 499 of 1.379 cabins and suites have balconies. And otherwise there is a lot to do. The age of the ship requires drastic measures.

The Carnival Triumph is being renovated in the dock of the San Fernando shipyard in Cádiz, which is part of the Navantia Group. The Spanish company has great expertise in ship conversions. The announced measures take just under two months and provide for a complete cabin modernization. There is also the installation of the WaterWorks water park and a high ropes course. The Serenity Adult Only wellness oases and the Cloud 9 Spa are new flagships.

Restaurants and bars are getting the standard they are used to on younger Carnival ships. In the future, guests can look forward to a selection of snack options in the Lido Marketplace. With the Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse and the Italian restaurant Cucina del Capitano, new restaurants are being created. The bar area will be expanded to include the RedFrog Pub and Piano Bar 88. After the spa stay, the completely renovated ship will start on April 29, 2019 from Norfolk / Virginia on Caribbean cruises.
