January 31, 2020 - The coronavirus, which was first reported from China, is causing uncertainty and hectic reactions worldwide. The media reported yesterday that the Costa Smeralda, Costas Crocieres current flagship, reported a suspected corona case. Fortunately, the suspicion has not been confirmed. The following is what happened last night at 10pmsubmitted by an official statement of the shipping company:

Genoa, January 30, 2020 - 10pm - Costa Crociere confirms that the Italian health authorities have diagnosed a general flu for the infected passenger on board of Costa Smeralda.

The situation on the ship, which is currently docked in Civitavecchia, was always under control. The crew gave tireless support and also looked after the guests who had traveled to the terminal for embarkation in the best possible way.

Thanks to the prescribed protocols that apply on board the yesterday evening, just a few hours before the ship's arrival in Civitavecchia, our medical team detected a suspected fever by a XNUMX-year-old woman and immediately took the necessary precautions. The competent authorities were informed and carried out all necessary checks on arrival of the ship in the port of Civitavecchia.

While we are aware of the inconvenience this will cause, the procedures in place and our collaboration with health authorities have been effective in managing this situation and have been able to ensure the highest levels of safety for all of our guests, crew and the community as a whole.

The ship will skip the port of La Spezia planned for tomorrow and remain docked in Civitavecchia until tomorrow, before leaving for Savona at 6pm and thus resuming its regular cruise program . Costa Crociere offers guests who should have disembarked in Civitavecchia today the opportunity to spend the night on board and start their journey home tomorrow morning. Guests who wish can disembark at will. Costa has already given assurances that all guests who should check-in in Civitavecchia today will stay in the hotels near the port at corporate expense. You will go on board tomorrow with the guests from La Spezia.

Costa Crociere thanks the health authorities, the coast guard and the ministries involved for their great support and organizational effort.
