Diverse art experiences on Celebrity Cruises ships

April 24, 2023 - Art experiences are included on Celebrity Cruises Edge class ships. On the Celebrity Beyond, the flagship of the fleet, around 4.500 art objects can be admired. They come from around 700 artists from more than 40 countries on all continents. The Celebrity Apex and Celebrity Edge feature more than 4.000 pieces of art.

All ships of the new Edge class from Celebrity Cruises surprise in the pool area with a striking, oversized work of art. On the Celebrity Beyond, this is a stooped man balancing a white elephant on his back. The sculpture "L'origine" by French artist Fabien Merelle symbolizes the overcoming of seemingly superhuman problems.

On Celebrity Apex's older sister ship, passengers will find a collection of more than 4.000 works of art, including photographs, paintings and sculptures. One eye-catcher is "Faces of Identity", a large mask by the South African sculptor Lionel Smit. This bronze sculpture is on deck 14 in front of the Oceanview Café. Another showpiece at the Celebrity Apex: The “Meeting Hearts” by Italian artist Lorenzo Quinn are enthroned in front of the pool on the resort deck. It is a silver sculpture depicting the hands of a man and a woman forming a large heart.

The first ship of this class, the Celebrity Edge, shines poolside with a large white butterfly, the "Dream Machine" by Brazilian artist Rubem Robierb. A life-size bronze horse by British sculptor Sophie Dickens stands in front of the Rooftop Garden.

Guests interested in art are offered an "Art, Architecture & Design" tour on board all three ships. On a 75-minute tour, which takes place several times a week, the most important objects on each ship are presented in an expert manner. The art tour debits the on-board account with the equivalent of around 50 euros. Interested passengers can find more details on the individual works of art in their cabins in an “Art Book” and in an “Art Collection” folder.

Celebrity Cruises is coming to Europe this summer with seven ships, including the Edge-class ships. They offer various 5 to 14 day itineraries as well as many week-long cruises. The ships lie in eleven ports for two full days.

With the Celebrity Beyond through the eastern Mediterranean
The newest ship in the fleet operates from/to Civitavecchia (Rome). On her 9- to 11-day cruises, Celebrity Beyond calls at destinations in the eastern Mediterranean; including Dubrovnik (Croats), Kotor (Montenegro), Corfu and Zakynthos (Greece) and La Spezia, Naples and Messina in Sicily (Italy). The first descent in Civitavecchia starts on May 7th.

The Celebrity Apex departs from/to Amsterdam
As in the previous year, the Celebrity Apex will be held by Amsterdam mainly do 8 to 10 day cruises in the Norwegian fjords. The first descent starts on May 7th. The journey leads to Geiranger. Depending on the duration of the cruise, other stops include Bergen, Flåm and Oslo.

In addition, the Celebrity Apex offers several 13-day cruises from/to Amsterdam through the Baltic Sea. It heads for major cities such as Tallinn (Estonia), Helsinki (Finland), Stockholm (Sweden) and Copenhagen (Denmark). In addition, trips from Amsterdam to to Iceland, Ireland and the British Isles.

The Apex offers 11-day cruises from/to Piraeus (Athens) to Turkey in autumn (September and October). Kusadasi (ruins of Ephesus), to Rhodes (Greece), Ashdod near Jerusalem (Israel) and to Alexandria (Egypt). Since 2012 she is the first ship in the fleet to visit Egypt again. In Ashdod and Alexandria the apex stays two days.

The Celebrity Edge operates between Barcelona and Rome
The Celebrity Edge will be in service between Barcelona and Civitavecchia (Rome) from May 1st. On her 8-day cruises through the western Mediterranean, she stops in, among other places Ajaccio (Corsica), Portofino and La Spezia in Italy, in Cannes on the French Côte d'Azur and in Palma de Mallorca or Ibiza.
