Investor consortium takes over Hurtigruten Expeditions

December 4, 2024 – After the well-known Norwegian shipping company Hurtigruten changed ownership, Hurtigruten Expeditions (HX), which is being spun off, is also reporting a change in ownership. An investor consortium consisting of two shareholders is taking over HX for 140 million euros.

The takeover supports the spin-off from sister company Hurtigruten. The acquisition serves to acquire new capital to support HX's growth. The range of services will be expanded and investments in new buildings will be made easier.

The new owners are Arini Capital Management and Cyrus Capital Partners, both companies based in London. This explains the fact that Hurtigruten Expeditions will operate its business from the new headquarters in London. Otherwise, the acquisition is not expected to have any practical impact on HX's customer offering, business partners or day-to-day operations. The companies involved expect the transaction to be completed in January 2025.

HX sees itself as the world's leading company for expedition cruises. The fleet currently consists of five ships. 30 countries and 250 destinations are visited. HX specializes in expeditions from pole to pole. Sustainability, science and education are the principles of its business policy. HX was the first cruise company to stop using heavy fuel oil as fuel. It banned unnecessary single-use plastics in its business operations and used hybrid cruise ships.
