December 15, 2022 - Today, Papenburg-based MEYER WERFT handed over the future flagship Arvia to P&O Cruises. The British cruise line, which belongs to Carnival Corporation & plc, took over Arvia, an identical sister ship to the Iona, which went into service in 2020.

With the Arvia, the shipyard is handing over the second cruise ship to a shipping company this year. In a time characterized by delivery bottlenecks and material shortages, this achievement deserves special mention.

Like the Iona, the Arvia is powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). LNG is currently considered one of the cleanest fuels available in shipping. In addition to reducing the CO2-Emissions, the emission of nitrogen oxides and particulate matter is almost completely avoided, and that of sulfur oxides completely. The shipyard emphasizes that the Arvia is future-proof with this drive. In perspective, such drive systems can be operated in a climate-neutral manner if green, regenerative LNG is available. MEYER WERFT will build six cruise ships by 2025. These new builds all have the low-emission drive system.
Information about the ship:
Like her sister ship Iona, the Arvia is measured at almost 185.000 GT. Its length is given as 344 meters. 2.659 cabins are spread over 16 passenger decks. This results in a passenger number of around 5.200. 1.800 crew members take care of the well-being of the guests. P&O Cruises attaches great importance to an extensive sports and entertainment program. As on the Iona, the three-storey, light-flooded atrium and the SkyDome will act as crowd pullers. The SkyDome is an entertainment area with a pool whose glass dome can be opened in warmer areas. The ship also has four pools and 18 whirlpools. The ship is spending its debut season in the Caribbean. After that it tours in Europe.
