October 8, 2018 - The luxury cruise brand Silversea Cruises and MEYER WERFT from Papenburg have signed a preliminary agreement (Memorandum of Understanding) for the construction of two cruise ships of the new "Evolution Class". The first of the two new buildings is due to be delivered in 2022. The time for the completion of the second ship is still to be determined.
The Monaco-based cruise company currently operates ten smaller cruise lines in the luxury segment. Several of these ships are expedition cruise ships. The ships call at more than 900 destinations on seven continents.

The contract is still subject to the customary reservation of financing. The final specification of the ships has not yet been determined either. Shipyard representatives expect the additional negotiations to be concluded in spring 2019. After all, it is already certain that the first of the ultra-luxury class ships to be built will be delivered in 2022.

As the majority shareholder, Royal Caribbean expects great potential in the ultra-luxury class and expedition ships. Royal Caribbean assumes that enough discerning guests will gladly accept the offers. There is still no reliable information on the equipment of the ships. A statement by Tim Meyer, Managing Director of MEYER WERFT, can be inferred that "a new generation of very environmentally friendly ships in this luxury segment of the cruise" is being created.
