February 2, 2019 - MEYER WERFT in Papenburg, Lower Saxony, started the construction of the second ship of the Quantum Ultra class yesterday. The client is Royal Caribbean International, the world's number two cruise line. The new building is scheduled to start cruises from the USA in autumn 2020.

In the presence of Michael Bayley, President and CEO Royal Caribbean International, and Richard D. Fain, Chairman and CEO, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. and Tim Meyer, CEO of MEYER WERFT, the first steel plate was burned yesterday in the shipyard's laser center. Traditionally, the first thing to do was to cut the outline of the new building out of the steel and sign it by the executives. The start of the new building is officially linked to the start of burning.

With the Odyssey of the Seas, the fifth ship in a proven series of ships is being built. MEYER WERFT is currently building the sister ship Spectrum of the Seas. It should leave the building dock in spring 2019. After the final equipment and the necessary test drives, it is delivered to the shipping company. The Odyssey of the Seas should be completed in autumn 2020. Details about the ship will follow in the course of the year. In any case, the ship will presumably receive the Quantum class mark, the North Star. This is a viewing capsule that can be swiveled over the side wall and extended to a height of 91 meters. It provides spectacular panoramic views.
