January 19, 2019 - Hapag Lloyd Cruises will take over three new expedition ships by spring 2021. With the takeover of the last new building in spring 2021, it is the HANSEATIC spirit, the MS BREMEN is leaving the fleet. The new operator is the riverboat operator VIVA Cruises, a subsidiary of the Swiss Scylla AG.

The 155-star expedition ship MS BREMEN with a capacity of 4 passengers was built by Mitsubishi in 1990. In 1993 it was added to the Hapag Lloyd Cruises fleet. The 111 meter long and 17 meter wide ship was sold to the Swiss company Scylla AG. Scylla AG, which has been active in the riverboat sector since 1973, has so far owned 31 river cruise ships. They have been chartered out to various operators.

Last year, the family-owned Scylla AG installed VIVA Cruises as its own river tour operator. The start-up can now expand into the high seas market in addition to river trips. Scylla expects the measure to expand its clientele. MS BREMEN will be marketed under a new name outside of the German-speaking market in the future. The purchase price was not disclosed. The ship will be transferred to the new owner in May 2021.
