The sole shareholder of MV Werften with locations in Wismar, Rostock and Stralsund is the Genting Hong Kong Group. In addition to general tourism activities, the company operates several cruise brands. It also holds a significant stake in the US Norwegian Cruise Line . According to the company, 210 million euros were invested in the three shipyard locations.

Yesterday, in the presence of the Prime Minister of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Manuela Schwesig, and the Chairman of the Board and CEO of Genting Hong Kong, Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, the first steel was cut in the Wismar section. Shortly afterwards, the first steel cut also started in the Rostock plant. Production goes on in parallel at the shipyards in Wismar and Rostock take place. The final assembly of the ship takes place in Wismar. Delivery is planned for the end of 2020. Around 600 suppliers are involved in shipbuilding.

The construction of several ships of the Global Class is planned. The cruise ships are 342 meters long and 46,40 meters wide. The draft is 9,50 meters. With a measurement of 204.000 GT, the megaliners can accommodate more than 5.000 passengers in 2.500 cabins with double occupancy. The cabins are specially designed for Asian families. The ships each have 28 elevators and - for the first time in cruise lines - eight escalators. They connect the public areas. There are also popular facilities such as a multiplex cinema, a theme park, a spa, various authentic Asian restaurants and fast food alternatives, various shopping opportunities and a luxury shopping mile.

The Genting CEO explains: “These passenger ships are not only the largest that are being built in Germany, they are also the most technologically advanced. They pick up on Asians' enthusiasm for artificial intelligence in everyday life, for example through face and voice recognition for most services on board. Or through robots that do routine tasks so that the crew can concentrate more on other services ”.
