April 10, 2025 – In the last few days, the Papenburg-based MEYER WERFT surprised us with concepts for cruises for the generation of those over 80, with the commission to build the 320-meter-long residential yacht ULYSSIA and today it is about the delivery of the ASUKA III and the start of the Carnival Festivale.
Sequentially:
Handover of the ASUKA III
The Japanese shipping company NYK Cruises has just taken delivery of the ASUKA III from MEYER WERFT. The ASUKA III is the second passenger ship for the small cruise line. The company is owned by one of the world's largest Japanese shipping companies.

The mid-sized new ship, which can accommodate 740 passengers, is specifically designed for Japanese conditions. According to the shipyard, the ASUKA III represents a new and Japanese style of luxury at sea. The ship is characterized by a distinctive design that combines open spaces with traditional Japanese aesthetics.

During its first season, the ship will visit over 30 destinations in Japan. The season highlight will be the "Japan Circumnavigation Cruise," departing from Yokohama in early August. During a 12-night voyage, the Asuka III will visit Hakodate, Otaru, Kanazawa, Maizuru, Moji, and Beppu before returning to its home port.
The shipyard describes the ship as one of the most energy-efficient cruise ships ever built. It is an important milestone on the path to reducing emissions and carbon intensity.
Burning start of the Carnival Festival
On April 9, MEYER WERFT celebrated the start of construction of Carnival Festivale, the fourth Excel-class cruise ship for Carnival Cruise Line, with the symbolic start of the ship's construction. According to Bernd Eikens, CEO and Managing Director of the shipyard, guests can once again look forward to several special features. Delivery of the cruise ship is scheduled for 2027.
