July 7, 2022 – The French Compagnie du PONANT, self proclaimed World market leader for luxury expedition cruises, has been synonymous with comfort, service quality and exclusive travel destinations for over 30 years. Last but not least, the company relies on sustainable travel with regard to the destinations it travels to. For the 14th ship in the fleet, PONANT intends to use non-fossil energy sources for propulsion.
PONANT is pursuing the ambitious goal of reducing the fleet's greenhouse gas emissions by thirty percent by 2030. This presupposes that the company uses various non-fossil energy sources as an alternative drive with regard to the upcoming new building. PONANT is therefore faced with the challenge of designing a completely new generation of ships.

The shipping company plans to put its 14th ship into operation in 2025. This assumes that the complex planning will be completed by the end of 2022. Minimizing the fleet's carbon footprint is a difficult task for PONANT. The climate-neutral new building is a step on the way there. The company relies on cooperation with companies that face similar challenges. The shipping company is also involved in various European research projects. The projects include the use of biofuels, such as green hydrogen, as well as the possibilities of using wind and water power. Success remains to be seen.
