February 15, 2022 - Globetrotters who want to combine expedition cruises with exclusive travel destinations and excellent cuisine are in good hands on board the twelve PONANT ships. PONANT is opening the booking portals for the newcomer, the Le Commandant Charcot, with immediate effect. Ten exclusive departures to regions in the high North.
PONANT's new polar expedition ship has a lot to offer: state-of-the-art on-board technology, clean ship propulsion and maximum comfort in extreme regions. Thanks to her ice class (PC2), Le Commandant Charcot is able to travel to the most remote areas of the Arctic much earlier and at times of the year when they are inaccessible to other expedition ships. With the geographical North Pole, Greenland's east coast or the Northeast Greenland National Park, the variety of routes is diverse. In 2023, a new expedition to the archipelagos in the Russian High Arctic was added to the shipping company's program. This 19-day expedition cruise takes in the Barents Sea and Kara Sea. The program also includes a visit to the Franz Josef Land archipelago, the double island of Novaya Zemlya and the Northern Land Archipelago (Severnaya Zemlya), which belongs to the Krasnoyarsk region.
Numerous exclusive activities included in the price ensure authentic experiences in the eternal ice. These include meetings with the Inuit communities, dog sledding and ice fishing on the East Greenland tours. In addition, kayak trips, hikes with and without snowshoes and much more are offered. There is also the opportunity to contribute to research efforts alongside onboard scientists in the onboard research laboratory. More than 20 nature guides accompany the guests on excursions and landings with the on-board Zodiacs.
