May 15, 2023 - Princess Cruises fans can look forward to the second member of the Sphere class fleet today. The ship, powered by LNG liquefied natural gas, will be built at one of Italy's Fincantieri shipyards and will be christened the Star Princess. The first voyage with guests is expected to begin on August 4, 2025.
The Princess Cruises ships of the Sphere class are larger than the previously built Royal class ship units and they differ from the previous ships in the propulsion system. For reasons of environmental protection, ships of the Sphere class are operated with climate-neutral LNG liquefied natural gas.
Although the two forthcoming newbuilds are a good 20 percent larger than the cruise line's most recently commissioned cruise ships, the passengers on board enjoy the personal atmosphere Princess Cruises is known for. There are significant changes: the casino area and the Lotos Spa, placed on two levels, are increasing in size. Last but not least, the shipping company promises spectacular innovations for the restaurant and bar areas.
A total of 4.300 guests can be accommodated in each of the new buildings. The maiden voyage of the first Sphere-class ship, the Sun Princess, is expected in February 2024. The Star Princess is expected to depart on August 4, 2025 Civitavecchia (Rome) on a nine-day Central Cruise. Destinations are Corfu, Kotor, Mykonos, Santorini and Naples. This and other trips will be activated for booking on June 1, 2023.
