August 31, 2022 - High-speed Internet via satellite: Elon Musk's SpaceX Starlink broadband Internet service will be installed on all ships of the Royal Caribbean Group by early 2023.
Celebrity Cruises equips their ships with high-speed Internet. For this purpose, the broadband Internet service Starlink will be installed by Elon Musk's SpaceX - an innovation in the cruise industry. The new satellite technology will also be used on all ships of Royal Caribbean International and Silversea Cruises. This makes Royal Caribbean Group the first cruise line to introduce this service at sea. The conversion is already in full swing and should be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2023.

New technology will be introduced first on ships of the Edge class
The first celebrity ship with high-speed internet onboard will be the new flagship, Celebrity Beyond. The two sister ships of the Edge class, the Celebrity Edge and Celebrity Apex, will follow – the new internet service is to be introduced on both ships by the end of the year. The other celebrity ships will then be successively equipped with high-speed internet.
“This technology onboard our ships will enhance the cruise experience for guests and crew alike. It will enable and significantly enhance high-bandwidth activities such as video streaming and video calling," said Jason Liberty, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group, adding, "Using Starlink is another example of our continued focus on innovation and... Quality for our guests." Faster, more reliable internet will make it easier for guests and crew to stay connected and work with family and friends, Liberty said. "No matter where they are in the world."
Starlink is a satellite network operated by the US aerospace company SpaceX, which is intended to offer worldwide Internet access in the future. SpaceX boss is Elon Musk.
