July 1, 2022 - We owe the amazing realization to Costa Crociere and a market research company commissioned by the shipping company that 6,5 million Germans can imagine embarking on a cruise within the next twelve months.
The cruise company Costa Crociere, which is part of the Carnival Group, commissioned the Milan-based market research company "Human Highway" in Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria to question people's expectations and demands with regard to the forthcoming summer vacation.

The statement that 55 percent of those surveyed associate summer vacation with “relaxation” is pretty much congruent for the six countries. 50 and 44 percent of those interviewed opted for “sea and beach”. Less than a third (31 percent) consider “visiting art and cultural sites” to be relevant. Additional aspects of a successful holiday are: meeting new people, proximity to clubs or bars (especially for those under 35) and a service that proposes and organizes daily activities. This option increases with age. The bottom line is that cruising captures most of the expectations.
In a second part of the survey, the representative group of people surveyed in Germany (age group 18 plus) was told that the wishes they had stated for their vacation would be ideally fulfilled by a cruise.

The most common reaction to this statement was to want to book a cruise (24,7 percent). Twenty percent of those questioned were surprised or incredulous. 19 percent showed curiosity; and 15 percent expressed the desire to obtain more specific information. 11,1 percent stated that they already knew that a cruise would be the ideal vacation for them. More than 30 percent of cruise repeaters were convinced that the statement was correct.
Based on these analyses, it can be concluded that 6,5 million Germans could imagine going on a cruise in the next 12 months. The main stress factors are the corona-related restrictions and the Ukraine war. Fear of inflation is what slows Germans down the most when planning their vacations. 31 percent of those interviewed are concerned about this topic. However, concerns about a recession and inflation are lower in Germany than in the other five countries.
