Karl WP Beyer February 19, 2025 – TUI Cruises has so far released a lot of promotional information about the Mein Schiff Relax, the first ship in the InTUItion class. The shipping company is currently commenting on the first captains.
Captain Tom Roth will take over the first command of the ship. Born in Zurich in 1970, he has been part of the TUI Cruises fleet since 2016. He oversaw the development of the Mein Schiff Relax for over six years. Since August last year, he has been following the progress of the new build at the Fincantieri shipyard. His tasks included the joint design of a new, pioneering high-tech bridge with the experts from the Norwegian company Vard, which is also part of the Fincantieri Group. By the way, it seems that Captain Roth has taken over the role of Captain Kjell Holm, who retired for age reasons.

After the ship’s christening in the Spanish Malaga Command of the Mein Schiff Relax passes to Captain Todd Burgman. In the summer, the new ship tours the western Mediterranean. In the winter season, Mein Schiff Relax cruises between the Canary Islands. Todd Burgman is American. He has commanded various TUI Cruises ships since 2014. He began his nautical training in 1979 with the US Coast Guard Reserve. He has been a captain on a wide variety of ships for thirty years.
