December 1, 2023 – We hear good news from Turku, Finland. The Meyer Turku shipyard floated the Mein Schiff 7, which is currently under construction, today. With the flooding of the construction dock, a significant step has been taken towards the commissioning of Mein Schiff 7 in early summer 2024.
The sister ship of Mein Schiff 1 and the Mein Schiff 2 offers guests some innovations – as usual from TUI Cruises. Innovations are also occurring in the technical sector. Sequentially:
Two cabin categories for solo travelers
The number of solo travelers is increasing. The Hamburg shipping company is responding to the trend by setting up twelve inside and 14 outside individual cabins. TUI Cruises promises individual freedom with plenty of storage space and a unique feel-good atmosphere.

Culinary innovations
One of the new additions is Café Central on Deck 5, which serves coffee and pastry specialties during the day.
The new Asia & Sushi restaurant Hideki is being built in the rear area of the “Große Freiheit”. Lovers of Asian cuisine watch the sushi masters produce tasty variations at the open counter in the middle of the restaurant. In terms of appearance, a material mix of polished surfaces and warm wood invites you to linger in a cozy atmosphere.
Mediterranean specialties await passengers in the new Italian restaurant La Spezia. Sea views, wooden floors, modern colors and lots of sunlight coming in through the large panoramic windows on Deck 4 of the Große Freiheit create a lively atmosphere. La Spezia is open for all meals.
Also new is the Champagne Treff on deck 6. TUI guests can reach it, for example, via a spiral staircase from the Große Freiheit. Visitors can expect a new sun deck with elegant lounge furniture.
The focus: low-emission ship operations
Mein Schiff 7 uses lower-emission marine diesel (sulfur content 0,1%) for propulsion; Catalysts (nitrogen oxide reduction of around 75%) and a shore power connection also contribute to better environmental compatibility. If methanol is available, in the future green methanol, ship propulsion will be almost CO2-neutral.
A perennial issue on cruise ships is litter. Organic waste is broken down through thermal treatment and processed for further use on land. The innovative HydroTreat system takes care of biological waste. The liquid parts of the waste are separated using heat and pressure and sent to the ship's own wastewater treatment system. The result is treated wastewater at the level of modern sewage treatment plants on land. The solid parts of the waste are transformed into so-called BioChar. In agriculture, biochar is considered an all-rounder - for example for soil improvement or as a feed additive.
