Seattle-based Windstar Cruises operate six fine, small ships. Three of the ships will be upgraded in the next two years. There are the Star Breeze, the Star Legend and the Star Pride. The ships, each 134 meters long, are being stretched by almost 26 meters by the Fincantieri shipyard in Palermo to improve capacity. The spatial gain is 50 suites per ship, including two large owner's suites. The renovation increases the number of suites per ship to 156. With double occupancy, this would correspond to a maximum of 312 passengers. The renovation work will take place between October 2019 and November 2020.

The three ships will also receive new machines. By using less polluted fuels, they should become more environmentally friendly and emit fewer harmful emissions than before.
The public spaces on board the ships will be expanded: two new restaurants, additional shops, an enlarged fitness area and a new spa are the result of the renovation. All existing suites have new bathrooms and sliding doors for the balcony areas. The additional middle section enables the installation of another elevator. In view of the increased number of passengers, two lifeboats for 90 passengers each will be added. The capacity expansion also applies to the crew. The guest: crew ratio of 1,5: 1 remains.
