MSC Cruises celebrated the floating of the MSC Seascape today at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. It is a traditional event where shipowners and designers of a new ship come together to launch it together for the first time.

Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of MSC Cruises:

"The floating of the MSC Seascape is another important milestone in the growth of our fleet. Thanks to highly innovative maritime and design features, the ship pays homage to the oceans. Despite the pandemic, we have continued our ambitious newbuilding plans and today is a double celebration for MSC, because at the same time as the MSC Seascape floats, its sister ship, the MSC Seashore, will be officially christened on our private island Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve.

Like the MSC Seashore, the MSC Seascape is equipped with the latest technology to minimize the impact on the environment. This is another step towards our goal of zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050."

Giuseppe Bono, CEO of Fincantieri:

"With such an imposing ship, it's all the more impressive to see the work that went into its construction. Work on MSC Seascape began around the same time the pandemic broke out - and today we are celebrating the floating of this ship with an industry giant like MSC within the timelines that emerged before the pandemic. The great determination, the commitments to production and the commitment to keep the orders have become the hallmarks of our company and a cornerstone of our corporate culture. There is no better way to look to the future with renewed confidence."

The MSC Seascape has 169.400 GT, can accommodate up to 5.877 guests and offers 13.000 m² of outdoor space.

Details on MSC Seascape

Future-proof environmental technologies

MSC Seascape's environmental equipment includes SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) catalysts on each of the ship's four Wartsila 14V 46F engines, which reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 90 percent by converting the gas into harmless nitrogen and water. Hybrid exhaust gas cleaning systems that remove 98 percent of the sulfur oxides from ship emissions are also on board.

The wastewater treatment plant purifies the water so cleanly that it is released in a higher quality than most wastewater treatment plants on land can. In addition, the ship will have advanced waste management systems, ballast water treatment systems approved by the US Coast Guard, state-of-the-art systems to prevent oil spillage from engine rooms and various energy efficiency enhancements such as heat recovery systems and LED lighting.
The ship will also be fitted with systems that reduce underwater noise to reduce the potential impact on marine life.

Designed to connect guests with the sea:

As with its sister ship MSC Seashore, almost 70 percent of the public areas on the MSC Seascape will be completely redesigned to improve the guest experience and offer opportunities to connect with the sea. The highlights include:
