In the early 1990s, the Italian lawyer and professor of maritime law decided Antonio Lefebvre d'Ovidioto found a luxury cruise line. She got the name Silversea cruises. The first two ships were each 157 meter long and measured at around 17.000 GT Silver Cloud and Silver Wind. Currently (as of March 2016) Silversea Cruises operates eight ships, a ninth ship the Silver Muse, it's in preparation.
The business idea, which is easy to name, was to offer the guests of the Silversea ships a higher standard than other cruise lines offer. That means that the company's founder decided right from the start to stay away from mass business. Instead, style and maximum comfort are guaranteed. The cruise ships vary between small and medium sizes and space for 100 to 540 passengers, and they only have outside cabins and suites.
In addition to all the luxury offered, the ships have an additional, undeniable advantage. They call at ports off the usual routes that are suitable for the masses. With its lived concept of offering its guests only the best, the company has already been honored several times as one of the world's best cruise lines. It was also a novelty when Silversea began to offer individualized routes. With certain restrictions, guests can tailor a cruise to their own liking.

Monaco - waterfront and marina
The company's success is also based on the idea of "all-inclusive comfort". Everything that counts on a cruise is included in the price. Meals, drinks, tips and the 24-hour cabin service are included in the tour price. Top drinks that are not included in the already outstanding restaurant and bar offerings, treatments in the spa area, the use of a private trainer in the fitness center or the like land as separate items on the on-board bill.

A further development of the Silver Spirit is that of Fincantieri under construction Silver Muse. It is 213 meters long and is approved for a maximum of 596 guests. Their tonnage is put at 40.700. The maiden voyage starts on April 20, 2017 in Monaco.
The following units are used as expedition and discovery ships in both polar regions, the islands of Oceania, Southeast Asia, in short in all remote parts of the world:
- Silver Explorer (formerly Prince Albert II)
- Silver Galapagos
- Silver Discoverer
The extraordinary standard of the expedition ships can be described using the example of the Silver Explorer, which was last modernized in 2014. The previous one Prince albert ii was launched in 2011 in Silver Explorer renamed. Generously dimensioned cabins or some luxury suites do not leave the guests in despair when the ship with just 130 passengers on board is sailing in the inhospitable regions of the world. Considerable luxury is offered over a length of 108 meters. The guests don't have to do without an outdoor grill, a humidor, a library with internet access, a beauty salon, a fitness center, a whirlpool, a spa and a hospital.
