We had been looking forward to the cruise on board Mein Schiff 1 for months. The winter in our region was cold and snowy, so a vacation under the Caribbean sun was a good fit for us. The cruise started in La Romana in the east of the Dominican Republic.

The departure to La Romana was from Munich. A suitable flight was not available from Frankfurt / Main Airport, which is much closer to us. Since we had nothing to do in Munich a long time before, we decided to take the ICE one day before departure for safety reasons and take a look around Munich.
The trip to Munich started almost an hour late. The train couplings were icy and caused problems. The second part of the train could not be coupled as easily as intended. It's a shame for us, because from that moment on we had to cut our program for Munich.
The badly heated train nevertheless reached Munich. We lived 200 meters from the main train station in the good and recommendable Regent Hotel. An ideal location for the subsequent sightseeing tour with the Gray Line double-decker bus that starts in front of the main train station. We opted for the Express Circle which led past the Pinakotheken, Odeonsplatz, the Bavarian State Parliament, Max-Joseph-Platz, Marienplatz and Stachus back to the main station. Later we joined a tour of the city and visited the Frauenkirche, the town hall, and finally the Hofbräuhaus.
In the evening we ate at the Franziskaner; good cuisine, good, attentive service, everything is consistent. One last drink in the hotel bar. Then we went to bed, because the next day we should go to the Caribbean.
