Costa Fortuna - Day 7 - Olbia

Author Anne Plau

The port of Olbia lies in a bay that extends deep into the land and is surrounded by hills and mountains. Arriving by ship is impressive.

The Costa Fortuna was a bit late. We only dock 30 minutes after the planned arrival. Since no clear announcements are made, the stairwells and the areas in front of the elevators are full of people. There is quite a mess when leaving the ship.

Shore excursion to La Maddalena

Our destination today are the islands of La Maddalena and Caprera. We booked a tour with Costa. You can find detailed information on this in our article Visit of the islands of La Maddalena and Caprera. With a coach we drive the coast north to Palau. From there we take a ferry to La Maddalena. After a 20 minute ferry ride we reach the picturesque main town. It goes on in the bus. First over a narrow bridge to the neighboring island of Caprera. This small island was the residence of the Italian freedom fighter Guiseppe Garibaldi for many years. He bought it in 1856 and lived there with a few interruptions until his death. There he dealt a lot with agriculture and tried out alternative farming methods. The estate was not changed much after his death and is now a museum.

We drive back to La Maddalena. We have an hour to discover the place on our own. A pretty place, small and tranquil. We even have time for an espresso and a piece of cake.

Impressive landscapes

The bus continues at 14:00pm We circle the island on the Panoramic road. This route is about 20 kilometers long and the views are beautiful. The air is clear and we can see as far as Corsica. Then we leave La Maddalena. There is a ferry to the mainland and a bus to Olbia. We'll be back late, I'm the penultimate one on the gangway.

I really enjoyed the La Maddalena tour. The trip offers overwhelming impressions, the landscape is original and impressive. We also had a very dedicated tour guide who gave good information and explanations.

Italian night on the Costa Fortuna

Today is our last evening on board. That means: Today is Italian night. Many areas on the ship are decorated with garlands and flags in the Italian colors. The Sardinia menu is served in the restaurant and a tenor sings between the main course and dessert. Then the parade of cooks and waiters begins, there is dancing between the tables and someone starts a polonaise.

The show in the theater is also dedicated to "Bella Italia". A colorful mixture of artistry, dance and singing, which is very successful.

Conte Rosso Bar

Conte Rosso Bar

Late in the evening we have a last drink in the Conte Rosso Bar, where we like to hang out. Vince, the singer and pianist, makes really good music. Now and then he fulfills singing requests. It's nice to have "Piccola e fragile" from Drupi again in this way to listen.
