Mein Schiff 2 - Day 1 - At sea

Costa Fortuna - Day 8 - Disembarkation in Genoa

Author Anne Plau

We reach Genoa in the morning. We booked a transfer to Milan Malpensa Airport with Costa Crociere. The meeting point for the bus ride is 10:45am So we can sleep in and take time for breakfast.

The transfer to Milan is not quite as smooth as expected. First the bus starts earlier without there being sufficient communication, then the bus driver accidentally drives to Milan Linate. Organization is not Costa's forte. But the flight is on time and everything goes very quickly in Düsseldorf. We pick up our car and are home shortly after 21:00pm

Conclusion of our cruise

The route of our Mediterranean cruise was balanced and interesting. Was a special surprise Tarragona. What a place to see! The idle times were long enough to discover new things or to freshen up familiar ones. We almost always travel individually to destinations. But the excursion offers from Costa are varied, and the price-performance ratio is also good.

A beautiful ship on a hop-on-hop-off voyage

The Costa Fortuna I liked it as a ship. The equipment is good as is the cleanliness and the space in the public areas.

I didn't like the concept of the trip, which is like a hop-on-hop-off tour. During our seven day cruise, embarkation and disembarkation took place in Genoa, Marseille, Tarragona and Palma. This constant change of guests brings a lot of unrest, which I found extremely disturbing.

Many things don't go together

During the trip, environmental protection and careful handling of food are constantly pointed out. Nevertheless, there is butter in small tinfoil packets, estimated at 10.000 a day, and plastic cups and plastic straws everywhere.

Costa stands for Italy and the Italian way of life. However, ice cream is only available for a fee on this Italian ship! Never as a dessert.

The service has been restricted. Cabins are only serviced once a day. Even loyal Costa travelers were surprised. It is also surely something that Costa would be reluctant to publish. We didn't read it in official news. In this point, Costa is now very much the level of her daughter AIDA.

There are also positives

The bright spots are the meals in the service restaurant, which are of very good quality. We also like the events in the theater, but the volume there is questionable.

In addition, I think it would be better if an artist doesn't sing playback, but is accompanied musically. And we've seen good interpreters.

An absolute plus belongs to our steward Ramiro, who provided top service in the limited time available to him.

You can't choose guests

Seldom have I seen so many inconsiderate fellow travelers on a cruise as on this one. Noise, yelling, and bad behavior for a week: adults who eat with their fingers; Children jumping around on armchairs and sofas and still romping around in the bars at midnight. A cruise company can only choose its guests to a limited extent. However, it can set rules for an adequate coexistence and set limits that guests should not exceed. What works on other cruise lines should also be possible on Costa.
